Nightmare

Overview

Sansha Faction Battleship. Requires Caldari and Amarr Battleship skills to fly, and the slot layout of the ship emphasizes a shield tank in conjunction with large energy turret usage. The Nightmare, like the other Sansha ships, receives a 100% bonus to energy turret damage, in conjunction with only 4 turret hardpoints, giving it equivalent damage to an 8 turret ship, and an effective 50% reduction in capacitor usage. With 7 midslots, it can fit a formidable shield tank, either passive or active, although it is heavily dependent on either cap boosters or a large number of capacitor regeneration modules to run a shield booster and the guns concurrently.

The Nightmare, like all pirate faction battleships, is exceptionally expensive (running, at present, between 800 million and 1 billion isk for the hull) and, while it certainly is unique, the cost generally precludes use in 0.0 PVP. The primary use of the ship is as an incursion, mission running, or ratting ship, with either faction or deadspace shield boosting/hardening equipment, since the Nightmare is capable of outputting extremely high amounts of damage while fielding an effective shield tank.

The primary limitation of the Nightmare is that it is very cap-intensive to run both an active shield tank and laser turrets, even with only 4 turret hardpoints. To achieve a reasonable tank, many pilots will use either extremely expensive Gist XL shield boosters, which can cost in excess of 2 billion for the highest end modules, or they will use cheaper faction or T2 shield boosters that are more difficult to operate in a cap stable manner. Alternatively, in a fleet situation, the two spare high slots can be used to run cap transfers and set up a cap chain with other Nightmare pilots, or with your logistics support.

Shield HP and capacitor got a boost in Dominion.

This setup will deal in excess of 900 DPS from the turrets, with additional damage provided by the drones. It is also extremely expensive, and far in excess of what is necessary to tank any conceivable belt rat spawn. Unless you have isk to burn, consider the following:

This fitting, while not cap stable, should suffice to kill any Blood Raider spawn without difficulty. The primary point of annoyance will be rats which tracking disrupt, particularly the HAC type rats, which may orbit within the tracking of the turrets. Use Hammerhead II drones or attempt to match velocities to reduce transversal in these instances. And as always, monitor local.

This was our second idea for modernized Tengu counter, there was a lengthy argument between FoxCats and DreamCats and in the end – FoxCats ofc won. DreamCats were left to lie, but now that SoCo is essentially crumbling into smaller pieces and trying to divide their effors to multiple fronts – there's room for a concept which is more able to chase shit around while still being effective in the long end of midrange combat, while still retaining the anti-tengu capability as well.

This niche might be where DreamCats emerge once again, not for MAIN FLEET stuff – but for small to midsize fleet combat with better ability to chase than a small gang of FoxCats. This fleet comp is for the 1% of EVE, I won't even try to sugar coat that. But yeah – if you have more isk than sense – you're welcome to join me when I call for DreamCats.

Ship types will go: Nightmares > Scimis > Huginns > Lachesis > Dictors – all standard Rokh Fleet fittings. I guess if you REALLY MUST cramp our style, you COULD technically bring a Rokh too. DreamCats were actually designed to AUGMENT the TEST Rokh fleets originally, but Rokhs/Nightmares just die too easy to bombs – hence we moved to FoxCats for serious business fleets.

The core of the fleet are Nightmares, which we call DreamCats, and yes – they are Tachyon Beam Lasers with tracking similar to Pulse Lasers on FoxCats but with optimal out to 150km+ (imagine that for a second if you will)
