This is a type of ship people with too much isk and too little imagination fly. It is a nice ship to fly if you are:
The Golem's large cargohold comes in handy when you are far away from a station killing rats. You can hold more ammo and more loot so you can keep bringing in the ISK for longer.
If you are running level 4 missions in Empire and want an upgrade from your workhorse Raven, a Raven Navy Issue may be a better investment as it can be fitted to deal better damage and is a few hundred million ISK cheaper, freeing up an extra few hundred million to blow on faction modules.
Geared toward versatility and prolonged deployment in hostile environments, Marauders represent the cutting edge in today’s warship technology. While being thick-skinned, hard-hitting monsters on their own, they are also able to use Bastion technology. Similar in effect to capital reconfiguration technology, when activated the Bastion module provides immunity to electronic warfare and the ability to withstand enormous amounts of punishment, at the cost of being stationary.

A Golem was encountered while Mission Runner Ganking that could not be killed with a lone DPS-fit Vagabond. It was remarkable in that regard given the Vagabond had a permarunning medium Energy Neutralizer fitted. The specific character name has been lost, but the fit was saved as as “Cleg”. It's now used as a guideline EFT fit to pit potential fits against. Being an an extreme example of a strong tank with solid DPS.
