Propaganda is an integral part of the EVE Online experience - nearly every alliance, large and small, employs some form of it - from low effort reddit memes to epic video productions, propaganda adds fuel to the flames of war. Test Alliance is famous (or infamous depending on who you ask) for some of the best propaganda production there is. From the smallest of local spam to the greatest of Ministry of Truth video epics, nearly any skill can contribute to the propaganda sphere.

There are a few categories of propaganda most commonly seen (but not exhaustive):

Low effort memes are most often in the form of images, but sometimes in the form of short, crudely-edited videos as well. These are typically quick jobs whipped up in response to something happening real-time in-game to farm reddit karma (or downvotes if you're just bad at posting). These posts embody the “shitpost” aspect of propaganda.

Useful tools to create low effort memes:

• Paint/Paint3D

• Adobe Illustrator
• Any free image editing software

High effort memes are often images with far more “effort” put into them than low effort memes. These tend to involve extensive artwork, hand-drawn/painted imagery, and advanced image editing. They can also take the form of video edits that go above and beyond the “crude edit” style. These often look like more “professional” propaganda posters that are often directly related to a given active conflict but can also be used for general recruitment or meme purposes. While a low effort meme is generally subject to the whims of whoever is “winning” reddit, high effort memes tend to garner respect for the amount of effort put in, even if the viewer is on the opposite side.

Gameplay captures are simple recordings of exciting fights or kills in-game that includes some sort of background music. While the purpose of the “meme” categories is to stir up talk or poke fun, gameplay captures are meant to display Test at its best. This is the most common kind of video content involving EVE.

• Shotcut (or other free editing software)

Hype videos typically require advanced editing, image manipulation, audio editing, and gameplay capture skills. These involve extensive video and audio editing to produce a piece that gets the viewer hyped up for Test. These are the kinds of productions you'd see for a sports team or professional ads. While normal gameplay footage (including the UI) is standard for gameplay captures, we generally want to make things more cinematic for hype videos - the point is not to show regular gameplay, but rather to make the game look cinematic and fun to watch even for non-players. These are excellent recruitment tools and often get a large amount of attention, but also take the most time to put together.

Note: free programs can be used but often don't have the feature list to produce something exceptional.

Ultimately, propaganda is about what you want to make. Beyond the categories listed above, people have made everything from song covers and originals to T shirts and merch to models and so much more - if you're creative and have an idea, you can make something cool - propaganda doesn't necessarily have to be themed around a current conflict, it can just be something fun and Test related. While anyone is free to be creative and make things they want to, there is also an official propaganda team known as 'minitrue' (Ministry of Truth), with a number of benefits for members.

• In-game payment/rewards for producing quality content
• Access to alliance libraries of footage, artwork, and other resources
• A 'focus group' to get feedback on your work
• Participating in planning for larger propaganda goals such as campaigns or major productions
• Bragging rights

• 30 days of membership in TEST -OR- a vouch from a current Minitrue member
• Proof of prior work (does not need to be TEST-related, just evidence that you have some valuable propaganda-related skill)
• A sense of humor and ability to receive criticism

1. Find the 'minitrue' Auth group (on auth, go to “your groups” and then “requestable groups”)
2. In the 'Reason' field, provide imgur, youtube, or other image/video link(s) to your work, followed by anything you'd like us to know about you, followed by the phrase “Dinos Don't Dance During Dramatic Danger”
3. In the 'Applying Character' field, use your MAIN CHARACTER
4. Click apply
5. There will be a brief interview process with the Propaganda Director before acceptance
