Dreddit Culture

Dreddit, just like Reddit, is not made up of any one particular group. To try and explain Dreddit culture you have to fully understand how Reddit works.

Despite what some people think, Reddit does not consist of one large consistent community. For every Subreddit dedicated to intelligent discussion on science or cute pictures of kittens, there is a Subreddit dedicated to beating woman or pictures of dead kids. What you think of as the “Reddit community” is actually just the community based around the particular Subreddits you visit.

Dreddit members are Redditors

Almost everyone that is accepted into Dreddit is by definition a Redditor, we 'require them' to be when they put in an application to join the corporation. A significant amount of time is put into checking Reddit accounts and insuring Reddit participation. So not only is it incredibly ignorant to assume the people of Dreddit do not represent actual Redditors, you also fail to grasp the structure in which Reddit communities are built.

If you ever feel the need to make a comment stating that “Dreddit members are not real Redditors”, what you are actually saying is “Dreddit members are not Redditors that also subscribe to the exact same subreddits as I do and share the same opinions as me”. This is an important concept to grasp when deciding if you wish to join Dreddit and become part of our community or when determining if you should continue to stay in the corporation. What is acceptable in one subreddit may not be acceptable in another.

Reddit Account Checking

So if we check Reddit accounts, why don't we reject those who are members of those bad communities?

Well, what consists of a bad Subreddit? Not only is this completely subjective, it also goes against the very idea of Reddit. Anyone can create a community on Reddit, we do not judge applicants based on 'where' they post, only that they 'do' post and that they are active participating members of Reddit.

The Culture

As previously mentioned, there is no single type of group within Dreddit, so there can be no singular culture. Within the corporation there are many different groups, these come in the form of Squads, Channels, Rooms, almost anything. To try and find a group you fit in with may pose a challenge at the start, but it can also be extremely rewarding. EVE is a social game and it is significantly more fun when played with other people.

There will probably be groups within Dreddit you don't like. That is fine too. The best action is to ignore those you do not like and hang out in a group you enjoy. The absolute worst you can do is complain about how other groups choose to treat each other or dictate how they should play the game. Not only will you become a target, you become a liability to other social groups you end up joining. Dreddit, just like EVE, can be a tough and harsh environment to those that are unfamiliar with it. Make sure you understand this and are prepared for this type of community if you decide to join.

X Member said X

Just like Reddit, Dreddit communications are not heavily moderated. Also similarly to Reddit our forums have voting, content is created by the community and voted on by the community. If you don't like something, -rep (downvote) it. Content is sometimes moved or deleted if it is off-topic or completely irrelevant, just like moderators in a subreddit remove completely off topic posts.

With this freedom comes the drawback that everyone can say anything to anyone else. This will probably never change, so you should probably get used to it if you wish to stay with us.

Dreddit is not Official

Finally, it needs to be said that despite what some may believe Dreddit is in no way an official Reddit corporation. We have no direct ties to Conde Nast Digital and we never will. We are just one of many EVE corporations which are made up of Reddit users.
