Privateers were once the largest group of high-sec griefers in EVE. Due to their mass-wardec tactics they actually caused CCP to change the War mechanics to discourage en-mass wardecs and switch to a system where each successive wardec cost more (known as the anti-Privateers patch).

Recently a few key corporations of Privateers have left to form The 0rphanage, which shares the same high-sec griefing methods.
