Blackbird

If you are currently flying a Griffin, get into a Blackbird as soon as you can. The Blackbird is the best early ECM ship. It can be flown cheaply by 2-3 weeks old noobs or a little less cheaply by seasoned vets. Both T1 and T2 fits are capable of entirely cockblocking enemy battleships causing endless rage and tears. There also happens to be a pretty kick ass reimbursement program to save you money when your ship is primaried. Fly a blackbird if you love frustrating others and exploding quickly.

Tips for Newbie Blackbird Pilots

• Get the fuck away from everything! Your Blackbird should be able to jam from at least 75km+ so get the hell away. Also fight aligned. This MIGHT (and I stress might) save your ship so that you can be blown up next fight instead.
• Use the tactical overlay. When you're jamming from range, scroll your view to top-down. This will let you see how close ships are to you, and if any interceptors or drones start burning to you, this lets you notice them a lot easier. Use this to know when the hell to warp out.
• Putting your jammers in alphabetical order means you don't have to think too hard.
• Racial jammers are colour coded. (Caldari takes blue, Minmatar takes red, Amarr takes yellow, Gallente takes green). Stop asking about the names, nobody will remember.

Fine, if you have to ask:

• Amarr = Radar
• Caldari = Gravimetric
• Gallente = Magnetometric
• Minmatar = Ladar

Use one of each ECM type as the standard (referred to as “rainbow ECM”). If the FC wants you to have a different set of ECM, then listen to him. If you fly Blackbirds often, it wouldn't hurt to have 4 of each Meta 4 racial ECM in your hangar for quick switching out. You should also save personal fits for each race so that you can switch very quickly. For this fit, range is king. The 1600mm plate allows you to survive a few volleys at long range so that you can warp out if under heavy fire. It also lets you take light fire long enough to keep a priority target jammed. If an FC tells you to keep a priority target jammed and you are dying, then keep it jammed until you die. That's what this reimbursement program is for. However, if you are jamming a non-priority target and you start taking heavy fire, then warp out if you have the chance and warp back in and keep on jamming.

ECM is essential to any fleet and has won us plenty of fights. So go jam some people and be a major pain in our enemy's asses.
