Mentors
Reasons a Mentor might be useful to you:
- OMG I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING WITH MY (EVE) LIFE PLEASE HELP
- Oh hey, I think I want to do do this, can you help me come up with a skill plan and give me a little push in the right direction?
- I feel lost, I have no friends yet, I don't know anyone and fleets confuse me.
- I really don't understand this game mechanic, I've already tried the deedeereddit channel and I still don't get it. Can you have a conversation with me and fully explain it?
- I want to try this thing out, but not sure exactly how to go about doing it, can you help?
- I'm really not enjoying this game anymore, can you help?
Reasons a Mentor is not there for:
- I don't have enough money to buy this thing, can you give me some?
- Can I have your wrecks?
- My sub has run out, can you lend me some ISK so I can get a PLEX?
- Can you give me a skill plan for the next year? No, I don't know what I want to do yet
- I have one question I want to ask and then I'm never going to use this service again
- No-one is responding in test_free, better find a mentor about it…
Finding a Mentor
Below is a list of all the people who have offered their time and services as a one to one mentor.
Choose someone you think sounds cool, send them a forum PM, in game mail, or contact them on jabber.
Ask them if they will be your mentor; include a little bit about your interests, your background and what they can do to help you
If they say no, pick again. It's not that the Mentor doesn't like you, he might already be the one to one mentor for a lot of other people. This is a voluntary service.

Guidance for Mentors
Things you can do to help:
- Take the newbro(s) on fleets with you, grab an unused subchannel/start a private convo, and talk them through what is happening, why it is happening etc.
- Offer specific training plans for various things, go through their skillsheet and check they haven't missed something important, explain WHY having a certain skill is important and what effect it has.
- Help them with game mechanics/how to fit/fly their ship
- Take them ratting with you/show them how and where to rat
- Introduce them to other people in squads/other newbros/help them make some friends
Problems and Advice
If you don't know the answer, don't make some bullshit up, go find someone who DOES know the answer
Don't take on too much. If you don't have the time, don't take on more newbros.
If a newbro is asking alot of simple questions, refer them back to the Deedeereddit channels. That's what is there for.
Rules
1. Regarding ISK:
- Mentors asking for ISK in return for advice is NOT OK
- Newbros asking their mentor for ISK is NOT OK
- Mentors giving their ISK without being asked is fine, it's their choice
2. Mentors: don't drop the ball
- Mentors should keep a list somewhere of who they are mentoring
- If a mentor leaves the program, he should send the newbros who are being mentored a notification
3. Don't abuse the system. Deedeereddit is still the place to go for your everyday questions. The Mentoring roles are purely for more in-depth, long-term advice and friendship.
